School of Engineering Technology

• BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY [SET].

The school of engineering technology [SET] commenced with five programmes /departments in 1977. The foremost departments were Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Chemical Engineering.

Chemical Engineering was later delisted due to non-accreditation of the programme by the national board for technical education [NBTE]. In the year 2015, Mineral and Petroleum Engineering, as well as Mechatronics Engineering were Established Chemical Engineering was also re-introduced at the same year [2015].     

Material/Metallurgical Engineering Technology and well as Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology were introduced as department in 2017/2018 academic year.

Presently the School of Engineering has ten [10] departments. They include:

• Agricultural and Bioenvironmental Engineering,
• Chemical Engineering
• Civil Engineering,
• Computer Engineering,
• Electrical/Electronic Engineering,
• Mechanical Engineering,
• Mechatronics Engineering,
• Mineral and Petroleum Engineering,
• Material and Metallurgical Engineering,
• Welding and Fabrication Engineering.

Dr. O. B. Epelle was the first Director/Dean of the School of Engineering. The tenure of the Director/Dean was then two years but the new Polytechnic act increased the tenure to three years. The name of Director /Deans, the year of service and their departments were listed as follows:
